The Euterpe Trio was formed in the summer of 2017 in Fremont, CA by pianist Colby Chai, violinist Vienna Huang, and cellist Tiffanie Huang. Under the coaching of Dr. Katherine Lee and Ertan Torgul, they covered for the Suono Duo at Music at the Mission and performed at the inaugural East Bay Chamber Festival.
Colby Chai, 15, is a sophomore at Washington High School. He currently studies piano under Dr. Jed Galant. He has previously studied under Frances Martin, Lisa Hu, and Dr. Katherine Lee. He has won a number of awards, including Double Grand Award at 2015 Youth Focus Competition, 2nd place at 2016 US Open Showcase Solo, Honorable Mention at 2017 East Bay Music Festival, and had also been invited to perform at the MTAC honors recital for the past two years. Most recently, he was selected to play at the MTAC branch masterclass with Dr. Peter Mack.
Cellist Tiffanie Huang is passionate about performing for social causes and has participated in competitions, including winning prizes in the KAMSA, American Protégé, Bay Area Association Music Legacy Open, MTAC VOCE Solo, and MTAC Ensemble competitions. She currently studies the cello with Jonathan Koh.
In addition to playing the cello, Tiffanie is also an accomplished pianist and has won prizes at the American Protégé, American Fine Arts Festival, U.S. Open Music, ENKOR, MTAC Rabinowitch, Steinway Avanti Future Stars, Great Composers Series, and ASMTA piano competitions. Tiffanie has made multiple solo appearances at Carnegie Hall performing on both cello and piano and has also been invited to perform on both instruments at the Junior Bach Festival. Tiffanie is a high school sophomore and a chamber music student at the California Music Preparatory.
Vienna Huang, 15, is a sophomore at Carlmont High School. She loves playing piano and violin, because music-making is an avenue for her to express her deepest emotions and feelings. As a winner of American Fine Arts Festival, she first made her piano debut at 10 in Carnegie Hall in 2013. In the summer of 2017, she returned again to Carnegie Hall as a prize winner to perform on the violin. Over the years, she has won multiple prizes in US Open Music Competitions and has been a three-time prize winner of San Mateo County Music Festival competitions. She has been studying piano with Sujeeva Hapugalle since 6 years old, and currently studies violin with Jane Singhal.
