Jacob Reed | 1st Prize | Strings | 4th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Jacob is a Junior at Monte Vista High School in Danville. At age 11 he taught himself to play the cello by watching YouTube videos of famous cellists. He began his formal musical training in 2015 with Eric Sung at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and while Mr. Sung remains Jacob’s primary cello instructor in 2017 Jacob also began studying with Clive Greensmith at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles. Jacob is currently in his third season with the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, serving this season as the Associate Principal cellist. To date he has performed ten concerts with the SFSYO at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. As part of his studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Jacob has been a member of the prestigious invitation only Locke Quartet for nearly four years. He participates in the Young Chamber Musician’s program in Burlingame. Jacob won the 2018 Prometheus Young Artist Concerto Competition (https://www.prometheussymphony.org/jacob-reed-cellist) and is a Semi-Finalist in the 2019 National Mondavi Young Artist Competition.
