Mia Wimbiscus | 1st Prize | Strings | 4th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Mia Wimbiscus is a scholarship Fellow at the Music Institute of Chicago’s Academy, a training center for gifted pre-college musicians. She began cello studies at age 5 and is a student of Hans Jensen, a faculty member of Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music.

As a soloist, Mia received first prizes in: the Walgreens National Concerto Competition, MYA junior string division, multiple divisions of Society of American Musicians Competition, and Chinese Fine Arts Society's Competition in Honor of Confucius. Mia has taken master classes with Eric Kim, Stephen Balderston, Nicholas Canellakis, and Daniel Phillips.

As an avid chamber musician, Mia has participated in the Musica Mundi Festival in Waterloo, Belgium, and the National Arts Centre, Young Artist Program in Ottawa, Canada during the summer. She enjoys being part of various chamber ensembles including a family cello trio with her mother and little sister. Mia believes music is meant to be shared and has committed to perform concerts for the community whether it be in a retirement home, nursing home or in hospitals.
