Donald Rabin (21) is a senior flute performance major at Truman State University studying under Dr. Julianna Moore, with additional instruction from Mark Sparks and Jennifer Nitchman of the Saint Louis Symphony. In addition to flute, he enjoys his studies in conducting under Dr. Samuel McClure. His loving parents, Joseph and Haydee, are continuously supporting him in his musical endeavors and have done a tremendous amount to continue his music education. As a member of Dr. Moore’s Studio, Donald has held several principal flute positions. He has been principal flute of PMA National Sinfonia Winds, CBDNA Intercollegiate Band, Missouri All-Collegiate Orchestra, and is currently Principal Flute of the Truman State Wind Symphony I and the Truman State Symphonic Orchestra. His hard work and dedication has helped him be a National Finalist and First Prize St. Louis Winner of the National Society of Arts and Letters Competitions, Grand Prize Winner of the Virtuoso Competition in Rome, Italy, Semi-Finalist for the Naftzger Advanced Musician Competition, Grand Prize Winner SAI Scholarship Competition, Alternate State Representative for the Missouri MTNA competition, Honorable Mention for the Missouri MMTA competition, winner of the Truman State Gold Medal Concerto Competition, Wind Symphony Concerto Competition and recent second place winner of the Southern Illinois Young Artist Competition. He is also the Truman State 2018 Presser Scholar. As an avid student, he has participated in masterclasses with Jim Walker, Denis Bourikov, Mark Sparks, Sergio Pallotelli, Jill Felber, Bonita Boyd, Alexa Still, Alice Dade, and Carmen Lemoine. Donald is thankful to have the opportunity to study with amazing musicians such as Mark Sparks, Jennifer Nitchman, Dr. Aurelia Hartenberger, and his current teacher Dr. Julianna Moore. Beginning fall 2019, he will start at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee for a masters in flute performance.
