Daniel Yoon is currently a sophomore at Leland High School. He has been playing the cello since the age of 7 under the guidance of Kyeoung Hwa Kim. Ever since, music has been a key part of his life. Daniel has won several awards in music competitions, such as Grand Prize in the 2018 Silicon Valley Music Competition and first place in the 2019 American Protégé International Concerto Competition. As a winner of the American Fine Arts Festival (AFAF) Golden Era of Romantic Music Competition, he was invited to perform at Carnegie Weill Hall in 2018 and 2019. Moreover in the summer of 2020, due to the coronavirus, his trip to Encore Chamber Music Festival was canceled. Therefore, he found a new opportunity and joined an online camp called Online Solo Strings Intensive(OSSI). In this camp, he got to meet several famous musicians. He participated in a masterclass with Brannon Cho and studied with Professor Daniel McDonough throughout the 2 weeks. In addition, Daniel participates in his school’s chamber orchestra and helps lead fellow cellists as the principal of the section. He likes to share his music with others by performing for elderly people at senior centers. Daniel is also a member of MUSE, a student-founded chamber music group that performs monthly at senior centers and holds benefit concerts every winter to raise money for people in need. During quarantine, he volunteered at the Doremi Project and taught cello to younger cellists. Daniel also volunteers weekly for Back to Bach. Besides music, Daniel enjoys playing sports, eating new food, and hanging out with his friends.
