Jane Lim | 2nd Prize | Violin | 9th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Jane Lim is a 15-year-old violinist who lives in Forest Hills, Queens. She is now attending her fifth year of the Manhattan School of Music under her teacher, Ms. Patinka Kopec. Her dream of becoming a violinist started when she was 7. The first teacher that she studied with, and who taught her the violin from the beginning, was Ms. Yonitte Ryger. After two and a half years of learning, her teacher recommended that she audition for the Manhattan School of Music. That same year, she was accepted as a student of Patinka Kopec, whom she continues her studies with today. As for academics, Jane is currently attending her first year in the Brearley School Upper School.

 Jane tried out for the Associated Music Teachers League Scholarship Award Auditions and won first prize in the Regina Rubinof Award for Strings on April 30th, 2017. After her first year in MSM Precollege, she was named on the MSM Precollege Division Dean’s List. Two years after winning the AMTL Scholarship, she entered the Rondo Young Artists competition and won first place. She performed “Melodie from Orfeo ed Euridice '' by Gluck at the First Place Winner’s Recital that took place at Carnegie Hall, in Weill Hall on March 11, 2019. After finishing her second year at the MSM Precollege, she studied with Ms. Kopec at the Heifetz PEG program in the Heifitz summer camp that takes place annually in Staunton, Virginia for three weeks. Returning to the precollege school year of 2019-2020, she found out that she had been chosen as one of the three recipients of the Patinka Kopec Scholarship. On February 1st, she had her recital for the scholarship in Greenfield Hall of MSM. In addition, she participated in the Piano School of NYC Strings Competition and won honorable mention for Best Romantic Music. During the summer of 2021, she returned to the Heifetz International Music Institute. Recently, she placed as a first place winner in the New York Young Virtuoso Competition. She also sat as concertmaster in the Symphony Orchestra at the Manhattan School of Music in the 2021-2022 school year. This year, she was a recipient of the Kate Bamberger Memorial Scholarship. She performed her scholarship recital at Miller Hall at the MSM Precollege.
