Seoyeon Moon is a junior at Amador Valley High School and has been playing the cello since she was 12. Currently, she is a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and studies under Jehah Han. She has played in multiple ensembles in the past including California All State High School Orchestra, Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra, California Youth Symphony, CODA December Honor Orchestra, Livermore Amador Symphony Youth Orchestra, the pit orchestra of the PUSD “Seussical the Musical.”
In addition to playing in ensembles, Seoyeon has competed in and won multiple awards in solo competitions including 2nd place at the 2022 American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition Intermediate division(ages 15-18), 1st place at the 2021 US International Open Music Competition, 2nd place at the 2021 San Francisco International Innovative Music Competition, 2021 Great Composers Competition-Masters of Cello Concerto, and 2022 Great Composers Competition-Artist of the Year. She was also selected as one of the finalists of the 2021 United States International Music Competition. Most recently, she was selected out of more than 80 entries in the 2023 Tri Valley Solo and Ensemble Festival to play the Elgar Cello Concerto at the Las Positas College Main Theater.
Seoyeon is the president of her school’s Tri-M Music Honor Society where she helps bring together the musical groups at Amador Valley High School. She is also the music director for Tri-Valley Symphonics, a year-round ensemble performing storytelling music at childrens facilities to foster early interest in classical music.
