Brandon Chien | 3rd Prize | Winds & Percussion | 10th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Brandon Chien is currently a freshman at Northwood High School in Irvine, CA. He has been playing Alto Saxophone for 4 years and is currently studying under Jason Roberts. He also plays the violin for 9 years. He has been accepted in numerous honor ensembles such as the Irvine Unified School District Honor Orchestra (2022 and as a principal in 2023), the SCSBOA All-Southern Middle School Honor Symphonic Band (2022, 2023), as well as the California All-State Junior High Honor Symphonic Band (Assistant Principal in 2023). 

Brandon has won awards in various competitions including 1st place in the 2023 Great Composers Competition - Best Rachmaninoff Performance (7th Edition); 1st place in the 2022 American Protégé International Woodwinds and Brass Competition, gold medal in the 2022 North American Virtuoso International Music Competition, 2nd Place in 18th Satori Festival String Contest (Violin), and 3rd Place in 17th Satori Music Festival String Contest (Violin). He has performed at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, as well as the Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage and the Weill Recital Hall).

Currently, he is the principal alto saxophonist for the Pacific Symphony Youth Concert Band (PSYCB). He is also a section member of the PSYCB Saxophone Ensemble and Pacific Symphony Youth Ensemble Saxophone Choir.

Brandon also enjoys music composition, reading, and playing video games in his free time.
