Zack Lam, sixteen, from Bethesda, MD, is a rising junior at the IB Magnet Program of Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD. He began playing the piano at the age of 8 and now studies the piano with Dr. Marjorie Lee. Zack had his orchestral debut with the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra at age 9 and has performed in masterclasses by Robert McDonald, Steven Spooner, and Arthur Greene. Most recently the first prize winner of the 2023 Virginia MTNA Senior Piano Competition, representing Virginia in the MTNA Southern Division Piano Competition, Zack has won numerous awards from regional, national and international competitions, including the 2023 Asian American Musical Society Piano Competition through which he earned a performance at the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage, Bonn Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition which enabled him the chance to perform at Beethoven’s house, 2024 David D. Dubois Competition as a finalist, 2023 Chicago International Piano Competition, 2023 Lichtenberg High School Piano Competition, 2023 Friday Music Morning Club Stubbs-Henbest Piano Competition, 2023 Maryland State E.R. Davis Competition, 2023 Virginia State Achievement Awards, along with the 2023 Virginia State Robert Spencer Concerto Competition, which he has won 3 times. Previously, he has won prizes from the Marian Garcia International Piano Competition, the Finland International Piano Competition, and the Gertrude S. Brown Concerto Competition. He has performed at numerous prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the NIH, and the George Mason University Center for the Arts. In his spare time, Zack enjoys sharing his love of music and performing in weekend concerts with assisted living residents across the Washington D.C. area. Outside of piano, Zack is passionate about public forum debate, history, and writing.
