Eric Wang is an eighth grader at Wilmette Junior High School and a merit scholar at the Music Institute of Chicago, where he studies piano with Dr. Matt Hagle. A highly accomplished young pianist, Eric has won top prizes in many local, national, and international competitions. Recently, he won the 2024-2025 MTNA Illinois State Piano Competition (Junior Division) and was named Alternate in the MTNA East Central Division Competition. He is also a two-time winner of the Walgreens National Concerto Competition, and a first-place winner in the Carmel Klavier International Competition, Society of American Musicians Competition, and Bach with a View International Competition. Additionally, he has earned prizes in the Franz Schubert International Competition, Steinway Piano Competition, ISMTA Competition, and DePaul Concerto Competition, among others.
Eric made his orchestral debut with the Chicago Arts Orchestra, performing as a soloist in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, he was featured in the Young Steinway Concert Series at the Skokie Public Library. He has also participated in masterclasses with renowned pianists and composers, including Alan Chow, Norman Krieger, Reena Esmail, Silvia Wang, and Marta Aznavoorian.
Beyond his achievements as a soloist, Eric is an avid chamber musician and co-founder of Music Ambassadors, a community outreach program that brings free concerts to senior communities. Since its launch in summer 2022, Eric and fellow musicians have performed 28 free concerts for seniors in the North Shore and Chicago area. In addition to piano, Eric plays viola and enjoys golf.
