Brandon Chien is currently a junior at Northwood High School in Irvine, California. He has studied the alto saxophone for six years and has been selected for prestigious honor ensembles such as the California All-State Honor Band, the SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Band, and the Irvine Unified School District Honor Orchestra.
Brandon has earned top prizes in various competitions. His awards include First Prize in the Golden Classical Music Awards, the American Protégé International Woodwinds and Brass Competition, the Charleston International Music Competition, and the Great Composers Competition: Best Rachmaninoff Performance. He was also the third-place winner of the ENKOR Winds & Percussion Competition (10th Edition).
As a dedicated ensemble musician, Brandon was a member of the Pacific Symphony Youth Concert Band from 2022 to 2024 (serving as principal in 2023–24) and the Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble (PSYWE) from 2024 to 2025. He traveled with PSYWE to Costa Rica in Summer 2025 for a music exchange tour and performed at the Teatro Nacional.
Brandon has performed in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.
Beyond performance, Brandon is passionate about sharing live music with audiences who may not have access to concert halls. Together with his twin brother, he regularly performs in assisted living facilities as part of a saxophone and cello duet named Row n Reed. He also enjoys composing music and playing video games in his free time.
