Matthew Chang is a sophomore at Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles. He started playing violin at age 6 with Mr. Elmer Su. He is actively involved in his school orchestra. Outside of school, he has been a member of the Palos Verdes Regional Symphony Orchestra (PVRSO) since age 7, currently its associate concertmaster. He has received 1st place prizes for violin performances including the American String Teachers Association Greater LA Finals Competition, the California Association of Professional Music Teachers Concerto State Finals, the Music Teacher's National Association State level competition, the Lansum International Music Festival, and 1st place alternate in the Music Teachers' Association of California VOCE State Finals, among others. He is also a gold medal winner in the Southern California Junior Bach Festival Complete Works Audition. He has performed as a violin soloist with the PVRSO, Palisades Symphony, Loma Linda University Church Orchestra, Bellflower Symphony, and Beach Cities Symphony. He was featured as a soloist at the Redlands Bowl and Carnegie Hall as a competition winner. He is a scholarship recipient of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Westside Committee and Music Teachers' Association of California and is honored to be a member of NYO-USA this coming summer.
