Andrew Mi | 2nd Prize | Strings | 8th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition

Andrew Mi is a cellist in the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO). He began his cello journey at the age of 4 and currently studies with Christopher Adkins, principal cellist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Adjunct Professor of Cello at Southern Methodist University. Andrew owes much of his success to Professor Adkins, who inspires and skillfully guides him in not only cello but also life.

He was the winner of the 2022 GDYO Philharmonic Concerto Competition, performing as a soloist with the Philharmonic at Moody Performance Hall. He has been the principal cello of the GDYO Philharmonic, GDYO Sinfonietta, Orchestra of New Spain Philharmonic, among others in halls such as the Meyerson Symphony Center and the Murchison Performing Arts Center. Andrew has also performed with Dallas Symphony sponsored youth chamber groups and string orchestras. Andrew received an invitation to Carnegie Hall and will perform there as a soloist in 2023.

However, his love for music encompasses more than just cello as he also composes music. In PTA Reflections, he has received the Overall Award of Excellence in Dallas three times and earned the Award of Merit along with two Honorable Mentions at the state level for music composition. He has other passions besides music such as STEM, and he was the 2022 TMSCA state champion in math, number sense and science and all-around winner. Andrew competes in Model UN, where he has earned Best Delegate at multiple regional and national conferences. Moreover, Andrew was the recipient of the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award. He also enjoys basketball, chess, and academic competitions in general.
