Harry and Emily Duo | 3rd Prize | Chamber Music | 8th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Dongwoo (Harry) Kang and Bomin (Emily) Kim met through Almaden Youth Musicians in 2017. In the AYM organization, Harry and Emily have worked together during several performances at nursing homes for senior citizens, at regional hospitals for patients, and at benefit concerts to raise funds for local children's hospitals. They have both recognized the joy that the universal language of music brings to others around them. They also previously worked together in an octet ensemble, Harry as first violin and Emily as first viola, receiving 1st place in the Intermediate Category of the American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music in 2020.

 Harry Kang is a ninth grader at Leland High School in San Jose, California. He started playing piano and violin at the age of six. Harry’s musical accomplishments include earning Honorable Mention at the Music Teachers’ Association of California in 2018 and 3rd Place at the Silicon Valley Music Competition in 2019. He earned a concert position in the 2021 spring Junior Bach Festival. He has participated in CYS for two years, and is planning to complete the CM Advanced Level for the violin this coming spring. 

 Emily Kim is a tenth grader at The King’s Academy in Sunnyvale, California. She started playing the piano at the age of six, and she eventually started playing the viola in the fourth grade. She has participated in CYS for three years, has participated in All State in the ninth grade, and has completed the CM Advanced Level for the viola. Emily received 3rd place for the American Protégé International Piano & Strings Competition 2021 Junior Category and also received 1st place in the 2021 junior viola Young Prodigy Category for the US International Open Music Competition.
