The Cedar Rose Quartet was formed in November 2023, when Robert DuBois (violin 1), Alexie Koh (violin 2), Olivia Haddick (viola), and Dyson Kobayashi (cello) were eighth grade classmates at The Crowden School in Berkeley, California. For their performance of Caroline Shaw's Blueprint, the quartet was coached by Doug Machiz, co-founder of the Friction Quartet. In addition, the group received advanced strings coaching from Eugene Chukhlov as part of their school curriculum. Robert (violin 1 solo), Alexie (violin 3 solo), Olivia (principal violin 2), and Dyson (principal cello) were part of the school orchestra, led by Artistic Director Eugene Sor, that performed at the Pacific Basin Music Festival in Honolulu, Hawaii in March 2024. They received an Honorable Mention award for their performance of Bach's Concerto for Three Violins in D Major.
