Sophie Dong, a ninth grader at Diamond Bar High School, is an enthusiastic flutist. She has been studying with Mrs. Alexandra Miller for four years. She currently plays in the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra and in her school’s symphony orchestra, wind ensemble, and performing arts academy. Sophie has also been selected for the California All-State and All-Southern bands and orchestras in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Additionally, she participated in the summer LA Youth Philharmonic Orchestras and performed as a concerto soloist in their chamber music series. In the past year, she has won many awards such as 2nd Place at the Young Artists Competition for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, 1st Prize in the Pelican International Competition, and 3rd Place in the Junior Soloist Competition for the National Flute Association.
