Alvin Wang is a 17-year-old musician from San Diego, California, who studies viola, violin, and piano. He began piano at age 5, added violin at 7, and discovered his passion for the viola at 12. Now in his fifth year with the San Diego Youth Symphony (SDYS), Alvin serves as the principal violist of the Symphony Orchestra, SDYS’s highest ensemble, where he holds a leadership role within the orchestra. Alvin has been recognized in numerous regional, national, and international competitions. In 2024, he was awarded a full scholarship to the Interlochen Summer Music Camp and participated in the Heifetz Summer Festival. He also received State Honors for the MTAC String CM Advanced exam. His achievements include top prizes at competitions such as the London Young Musician, Burgos International Music Festival, Bach International Music Competition, and Music International Grand Prix. Beyond performance, Alvin is committed to using music to serve the community. Through benefit concerts and outreach, he has supported the UCSD Autism Center of Excellence and participated in charity events for Rady Children’s Hospital’s NICU. Alvin is dedicated to continued artistic growth and community engagement through music.
